Different text types have their specific linguistic characteristics as well as typical errors. Scientific texts, technology texts, legal and administrative texts, media content (even fictional texts), they all require a particular approach. There are, however, some general rules when translating or correcting, which apply to all texts (e.g., rules of spelling and grammar, expressions must be clear and unambiguous, formulations must be simple and readable, etc.). Apart from these requirements, a good language manager must also keep in mind author's personal linguistic tastes leading to an optimal number of corrections, always in a reasoned way. In translating and editing, also the target group will be considered (i.e., readers). If something is incomprehensible to the editor, it is not likely that the readers will understand it. Such thinking requires the expertise of the translator/editor in a particular area (such as IT and technology, in general, in my case). As I often have to address different texts, in such cases I will consult reliable sources, such as spelling dictionaries, terminology dictionaries, handbooks, encyclopaedias as well as expert advice.
I'm proud of collaborating with COLPOLSOC (Colegio de Ciencias Políticas y Sociología) and red.es in analysing how digital transformation is being implemented in the Spanish Administration. After digitalization, digital transformation embraces all the processes leading to the profound transformation of business and organizational activities, processes, competencies and models to fully leverage the changes and opportunities of a mix of digital technologies and their accelerating impact across society in a strategic and prioritized way, with present and future shifts in mind.
While digital transformation is predominantly used in a business context, it also impacts other organizations such as governments, public sector agencies and organizations which are involved in tackling societal challenges such as pollution and aging populations by leveraging one or more of these existing and emerging technologies.
